How we met...
We met at my close friend’s house in London! We were there for the weekend but Sam, unfortunately does not remember me being there. I have forgiven him now. After that we didn’t talk much (at all) and then met again at Sam’s cousin graduation party in 2017 where he got my number and the rest as they say is history.
The proposal...
It was sweet. It was just the two of us at a lake in Aylesbury. We went for a lovely walk on a Saturday afternoon, I say lovely, but it was very muddy. As we were looking at the ducks and trying our hardest not to fall into the lake (more Sola than Sam as she is very clumsy), Sam got on one knee and BAM proposed! Of course, I said yes.
Our vision for the day...
We didn’t really have a theme… all we knew is that we wanted something rustic, simple yet chic. Nothing too extravagant, as we’re both very simple people. So I guess the theme was “minimalist”.
The outfits...
Sola bought her dress in April 2021. She went with her mum to purchase it. Funnily enough, it was the first one she tried on! After that, she tried on a few more but they didn’t quite feel perfect enough as the first one she tried on! She bought it off the peg at Wed2Be and fortunately, did not require any alterations. Although, she steamed her dress the night before, which according to the label she should not have done... Her steaming made the dress shrink ever so slightly but thankfully it fit on the day! LOL
Sam, being the simple and non-complicated man that he is, bought his suit online. He saw what he wanted and went for it (unlike Sola who tried multiple dresses on). The idea was to get a “rustic-type” suit for him that’ll match the venue! I think we achieved that! He loves his suit! And I think he loves it even more because I helped him pick it… I hope lol!
The food...
Nigerian dishes…
Starter – peppered chicken, salt and pepper prawns, dodo gizzard
Main – our guests chose from a variety of traditional Nigerian dishes which included Jollof and fried rice, ayamase and white rice, pounded yam and egusi all garnished with either beef or chicken.
Dessert – waffles and ice cream
Happy Hour – pepper soup!
Our favourite part of the day...
The sit-down meal… as all our loved ones were under the same roof enjoying a nice meal!
The idea we felt worked well on the day...
Having the first dance and speeches outside! Made it even more perfect! The weather was just ideal for it.
Entertainment...
Sola sang two songs for Sam, and a Mr and Mrs Game.
Where we feel our budget was really well spent...
Personal touches that reflected us as a couple...
The simplistic decorations for the ceremony and wedding meal as we never like anything extravagant.
Suppliers we used and loved...
Sharon’s Kitchen – AMAZING FOOD
Remi Benson – Great photographer
Bucks Wedding videos – Rob was so lovely throughout the day! Can’t wait to see the final video!
Roseline B Events – Decorator. We loved how she decorated the place. She listened to what we wanted and delivered!
Deji Rachel – MUA. Such a sweet girl! Made Sola look great! (Sola wrote this haha)
Finally, if we could give a tip to other couples...
Enjoy your day! It goes by so quickly! Don’t stress over the little things as they don’t matter. If we could do it all over again in the exact same way we would! Also, covid has taught us that especially for a wedding, so long as your nearest and dearest are there, nothing else matters! You don’t need a huge wedding to have great time!
Special thanks to Sola and Sam for sharing their story, and to Rumi Benson for the photos x
