There have been some slight changes to the way things work with the Northamptonshire Registrars, in regards to District and Borough Councils of Northamptonshire and where you live. Therefore, we just wanted to give you a little update! Below is all of the relevant information that you need to be aware of.

On 1st April 2021, Northamptonshire’s County Council and its 7 District and Borough councils will be replaced by two new authorities – West Northamptonshire Council and North Northamptonshire Council.
Registration Services
The Registration Service is separating into 2 separate services. This change will affect how people in the county can give Notice of Marriage or Notice of Civil Partnership.
Until 31st March 2021, a Notice of Marriage or Notice of Civil Partnership can be undertaken at any of the six Registration Offices across Northamptonshire. From 1st April 2021, Notice of Marriage or Notice of Civil Partnership can only be undertaken in the unitary that the informant resides in.
So from the 1st April 2021 for the areas of Corby, Kettering, Wellingborough or East Northants, council boundaries will become a part of North Northamptonshire Council Registration Service. The main Registration Office for this council will be Kettering with Registration Offices also in Corby and Wellingborough.
For the areas of Daventry, Northampton or South Northants, council areas will become a part of West Northamptonshire Council Registration Service. The main Registration Office for this Council is in Northampton with Registration Offices in Daventry and Towcester.

The online booking site for Registration will come back online from 1st April to book appointments, and there will be 2 bookings sites, one for each area. Any appointments within the current system will migrate to the correct area.

You must only book an appointment for the area in which you reside in for notice of marriage or notice of civil partnership. If you book for the wrong area, the appointment will not be able to proceed.
