Jacqueline and Steve's Winter Wedding

Updated: Jan 21, 2021

How we met and the proposal...

We met at a pub in Northampton not long after I moved there to study at the University. The proposal was truly wonderful and felt like something out of a fairytale. A year before, Steve planned an elaborate say what you see clue before presenting tickets for trip to New York for our 5th anniversary in the year ahead. Little did I know what else he had planned. On 7th November 2019 after our anniversary meal we went to the top of the Rockefeller Centre, and it was there when he got down on one knee and asked that all important question.

Our vision and theme for the day...

We chose teal as our theme colour as it is one of our favourite colours. Our living room is based on this colour too.

Our outfits...

I fell in love with the first dress I tried on! I did try a few others on to be sure, but nothing compared. Steve hired his suit and was looking forward to getting dressed up. My dad was very happy that he got to wear a kilt that matched the rest of the groomsmen.

Our food...

For the wedding breakfast we had a lovely afternoon tea with lots of sandwiches, scones and cakes. In the evening we had pizza. We wanted food that people would really enjoy and feel satisfied with. We knew we wanted something really tasty after the months of dieting!

A plan that we felt really worked on the day...

We liked the way the room was set up as one big table for the reduced number of guests. It worked well as it didn’t feel empty and there was still the perfect atmosphere.

Our budget was really well spent...

On hiring Dodmoor House, our music and the cake. These were all the things our guests really liked.

Our favourite part of the day...

Walking down the aisle had to be my favourite part, or maybe it was walking out together knowing we had finally been able to do it!

Recommended suppliers we used and loved...

I loved Hair by Jayne as she did all the bridal party’s hair. I loved what she did with them all. GJ Catering did a great job of the food. Everyone loved George Simpson and were very impressed with how many live sets he did. Kelly’s cupcakes made our dream cake. Emma and Grant from Purple Rose Photography did an amazing job capturing the day. It wouldn’t have all come together as well as it did without Louise, Mark, Tanice and the rest of the Dodmoor team.

Finally, If we could give one tip to other couples...

Don’t let the virus change how you feel about your special day if you have to face restrictions. Our wedding changed so many times and at first it was very sad that we couldn’t have the day we originally planned, but as our new date approached and we put together a different plan, it ended up being just as special if not more special on the day. The most important thing is we were able to get married, and we have so many beautiful photos to show those who couldn’t be there with us. Once all the lockdowns and tiers are a thing of the past then there will be more reason to celebrate with everyone then.

Special thanks to Jacqueline and Steve for sharing their story, and to Purple Rose Photography for the photos x
