Susannah and Vinay's Summer Wedding

How we meet...

We both swiped right!

The proposal...

We had both spoken about getting married and Vinay had been making some plans to propose, but then the winter lockdown came! Vinay had to change his plans and instead we went on a long walk talking in some of our favourite parts of London when Vinay proposed!

Our vision for the day...

We wanted to bring the bright colours of India, hopefully enjoy some August sunshine and for it to be a relaxed day our families would enjoy.

The outfits...

I wore a sari which Vinay’s mum had bought as we were mostly in lockdown whilst planning the wedding and a friend of mine made my blouse.

Vinay bought a traditional sherwani from east London, not far from where we live.

The food...

We both love Indian food so went with a traditional Gujarati thali as a nod to Vinay’s heritage which everyone loved!

Our favourite part of the day...

Having both our families together was wonderful, as well as waking up at a very peaceful Dodmoor House the following morning where we could relive the day over breakfast.

The idea we felt worked well on the day...

We were delighted with the outdoor mandap we arranged which worked so well on the upper level of the courtyard, and also enabled us to have a fire as part of our Hindu ceremony.

Where we feel our budget was well spent...

We were pleased that we didn’t spend lots on additional decorations as we didn’t feel Dodmoor needed it – it is such a beautiful venue. The existing furniture and the few additional items we added were well set out by the staff to make great use of all the space. We did spend some money on flowers for the mandap and the tables which were great and it was great to see them popping up around the venue as we moved around, thank you Kathryn!

Personal touches that reflected us as a couple...

The bright colours and sharing our love for Indian food with everyone there.

Recommended suppliers we used and loved...

All of our suppliers were great and we’d certainly recommend them all! We used Chelsea Hire for crockery, cutlery and table cloths, Mithaas in Leicester for the food, Rav Photography (who also got married at Dodmoor!), Mayur Art Mandap for the mandap, Chloe Parasmo for hair and makeup, and Charlotte Davies for the flowers. I also had my henna done by Sheena’s Mendhi in London a couple of days before and my brother in law, sister and sister in law made our beautiful cake!

Finally, if we could give a tip to other couples...

To not over think some things too much e.g. decorations as there are lots of things you could spend lots of time thinking about and spending money on that guests probably won’t notice! Also, to ask the staff at Dodmoor for their advice and suggestions, Kathryn was incredibly helpful throughout.

Special thanks to Susannah and Vinay for sharing their story, and Rav Photography for the photos x
