TOAST - The Vintage Kitchen

We recently heard from the lovely Gemma, who is new to the local area (based in the village of Byfield, about 15 minutes from Dodmoor!), and the proud owner of TOAST food truck. After hearing about this lovely little kitchen on wheels, we thought we would share the information with you all too!

The van is a 1963 Citroen H van. Gemma bought her as a ‘bare bones’ project and had her completely restored, fitted and sprayed to her own requirements. The van as a result is absolutely immaculate. They wanted a food truck that would really turn heads and be a talking point of any event.

The van is fitted with a smart navy and oak kitchen. The side opens out into an oak serving hatch/bar, as do the rear doors to allow more room. There is a stunning infinity light set into the back wall which lights up with LEDs, complete with copper Edison lanterns either side, retro white tiling, running hot and cold water and multi coloured LED lights fitted underneath the units and hatch and into the ceiling, that are controlled wirelessly so guests can colour match the van to their own style! The hatch can also be decorated with additional copper fairy lights once it's open.

From a menu point of view, they can offer a diverse range of street food menus, and work with guests to ensure their tastes are catered for. Stir fry’s, curries, noodle dishes, chicken tikka pie, Pad Thai etc. are all cooked just outside the van over giant paella pans, while fish and chips, toasties, retro fish finger sandwiches, chicken katsu sliders, pulled pork and beef brisket etc. are cooked inside the van.

They can also pop a cast iron griddle over the paella pans too and do BBQs, spiced lamb koftas and kebabs. All food is served in bamboo boats with wooden forks, though they can absolutely can provide ‘proper’ cutlery and crockery if this is requested.

TOAST can also provide desserts bars – who doesn't love a dessert bar! They can either do dessert canapes - mini desserts served in espresso cups, shot glasses etc. or serve them as large desserts, offering ‘slice and serve’ from the van. Wherever possible Gemma finishes all her desserts off beautifully with mini marshmallows, edible glitter or flowers, just to really make them look very special.
