Helen and Brian's Summer Wedding

Updated: Jan 6, 2020

How we met and the proposal...

Probably one of Dodmoor House’s older couples – we found that a wedding can be just as special second time around. Both widowed, we met through a connection in music – as a result music became an important part of our wedding. By coincidence, the proposal happened at the nearby Everdon Woods, where sun shone through the trees on the beautiful carpet of bluebells.

What we wore…

Finding a dress that would suit me and provide cover in all the right places was key. I was lucky to find a long and elegant ivory dress by Raishma Bridal, which was complemented by natural looking make-up by Helen Silver. The groom wore a new dark grey suit from Montague Jeffrey.

Our favourite part of the day...

Our favourite parts of the day (as there were so many) included being able to share our special occasion with close family and our respective long-standing friends; a ceremony accompanied by beautiful music – Elements strings; and three very special readings during the ceremony including a poem written especially for us.

The idea that we felt really worked on the day...

The venue felt ‘right’ as soon as we saw it – perfect for our guest numbers (48). Our plan was to make the best use of the accommodation: guests enjoying the courtyard for canapes after the ceremony; five round tables for the reception in the Catesby barn, and guests being able to move between indoor and outdoor spaces during the evening with delightful live music by Mango Acoustic in the background.

Where we feel our budget was well spent...

We were able to stick to our budget by adopting a simple and elegant theme. Our number one priority had been the live musicians with the remaining spent on really good catering by Cornwells (we chose a sit down meal but with a summer buffet as the main course), fresh modern bouquet and table decorations by Errismore Flowers, a classical styled cake by Dilicious Cake Creations, and quality photography by ACS Photography.

And if we could give one tip to other couples...

Our tip is stick to what is important to both of you and avoid unnecessary trimmings.

A special thanks to Helen and Brian for sharing their story, and to ACS Photography for the photos x
